  • Children's books...

So I'll admit it. I love children's books. I'm not talking about the Berenstein Bears and Clifford, but the really old school ones like Andrew Lang's Fairy book series and especially the original Frank L. Baum Oz series. Well, I decided to see if I can start up a collection, and so I went to browse on ebay...

My goodness! The original 1st edition prints for some of these are pretty hefty sum of money! I mean, yeah I know these books are pretty good and have cult-like followings (I almost joined one of the Oz societies, haha), but geez! There are some pretty crazy fans out there (and with good reason, I might add). The fairy tale genre pretty much died out after Frank L. Baum, and I guess that reflects the changing times and values of society... But I remember having such a wonderful time as I perused through all the Oz series in my tiny hometown library. The old school illustrations were the best, and maybe that's why I'm such a daydreamer, because of all those fairy tales that I've read... I was basically raised on it. Ever since preschool, I even watch cartoons about fairy tales (Korean people really liked Hans Christian Anderson, and I don't know about you, but the stories about the Goose Girl, the Tin Soldier, and the China doll scared the crap out of me). I think the eeriest story was Jorinda and Jorindel...

Anyway, I think I'll go check my library again to see if they still have those Andrew Lang books... and never return it! Hahahaha~

....yeah right. I heard they even make you pay late fines after your death. Tis true; I saw it in the news. :T

Ho hum, back to the doldrums of everyday life...
